Preaching by Example
The Terra Foundation, committed to environmental improvement, incorporated in 1998 advanced technologies in terms of energy efficiency into their refurbished offices. Likewise, they incorporated renewable energies and ecological products to set an example. We are convinced that if a picture is worth a thousand words, the best way to raise environmental awareness is a practical reality.
Design and Instalation: ACYCSA/T- SOL
A platform of 21 photovotaic panels of ATERSA of 110 Wp of monocrystalline silicon with a rating of 2,2 kWp, supported on an elaborate steel structure developed by INTERSEKAR IBERICA S.A., connects the network with two ATERSA 1500 w inverters to inject the generated electricity into the network.
In January of 1999 this solar plant was connected to electrical network, being the first domestic plant of photovoltaic energy following Real Decreto 2818/98. It fairly protested the inadequate conditions of the legal framework for domestic plants and after it was rejected on judicial review in the courts, it was resigned from the Special Registry of Solar Production causing the 1st Solar Strike in history, in June 2004. With the vigorous entry of the Kyoto Protocol, on February 16th of 2005, it was reconnected again without permission because it was considered as a tool to reduce carbon dioxide emmisions produced by the activities of the organization. Every year nearly 2.500 kWh are returned to the power grid.
Accoustic Ventilation System (AVS)

The Accoustic Ventilation System is made up of two windows of 2 sides with small openings that allow for the diffusion of hot air that is generated in the intermediate chamber. The curtain of air heated by the sun takes advatage into the harsh winter. In the summer it is pushed outward for cooler air. The circulation of the air is achieved by a system of ventilation. The bioclimatic isolation of the AVS system offers an elevated comfort and energy savings.

Belair lighting model is equipped with flourescent TL-5 tubes and high frequency electronic ballasts. The TL-5 flourescent tubes have a thickness of 16 mm (the conventional ones have 26 mm) and they contain a mixture of phosphorous and mercury that facilitate their recycling. These tubes allow them to save 25% of energy. The electronic ballasts add a savings of up to 35% compared to the conventional electromagnetic ballasts.

The plywood used for paneling is constructed by carton packaging crushed and pressed into blocks, 2240 by 1220 mm, and coated in PET plastic matte. This material was chosen to line the walls of the office as an example of the reuse of recycled materials and to contribute as such to the reduction of solid urban waste. They are also used to make office furniture. It was chosen as an alternative to the wooden boards produced with toxic phenolic compounds to give it consistency.
Registrable Fiber Accoustic Roof Instalation

These plates were created 65% by long conifer fibers and 35% by mineral binders, mainly cement. The fibers undergo a mineralizing treatment that impedes its biological degradation and makes them resistant to fire. They are clumped together by pressure to form a stable structure, resistant and compact with a great insulation structure. A false ceiling had been constructed to facilitate the electrical and teleinformative cable installations.

Carpets of Polypropylene, with latex. A synthetic textile fiber was tried that had been chosen for its durability and its high value of reuse despite being a material made with non renewable natural resources. It was considered given their long life in the busiest area of the office.
Anti-Static Wool Carpets
Produced by Jordi Mas Sanage´s S.L.
Used mainly for its anti-static qualities and for it being a natural material that allows you to move around the office with light slippers and gives a greater comfort of permanence in the office.
Water Pipes and Electrical Pipelines
Water Pipes produced by ITALSAN
A system of pipes for hydrosanitary downspouts and water instalations. The types Plast Mec and Niron were implemented as downspouts. These materials work perfectly with the heat and photosensibility and are dificult inflamables.
Electric Cabling: Pirelli
Corrugated tubes of polyetheylene used to protect the electrical instalation. The cable used does not contain PVC and corresponds to the Afumex from Pirelli Industries
Low Faucet Pressure and WC with Controlled Discharge
The installed taps on the sinks in the bathroom and the kitchen have devices of reduction of flow and the WC is a model with controlled discharge.
